On Wednesday lunch I was invited to a cafe for lunch with some mums from school, they don't do this often and I've never had lunch with school mums so we tired to make it happen. They had all managed to ditch their incumbents but I still, at short notice, had Elliot. So we became ladies who lunch. It was lovely, I had a spicy chickpea Moroccan stew with saffron rice and flatbread. They all had they duck, you know my feelings about eating those things. And Elliot had a ham and cheese croissant follow by a dessert of two dollars. What's that a two dollar dessert, that's pretty reasonable! No, no, he swallowed a two dollar coin.
Consumed, injested, imbibed.
Now he comes from a long line of coin swallowers, my grandfather jack swallowed a Christmas pudding thrupence, my sister Jen swallowed a 2c piece back in the day of "brown money" so in someways it's not a great surprise more of a family tradition.
What I'm not enjoying though is the hunt for small change. I put a stop to it tonight at church, we cut our losses and may have flushed $2 down the toilet, literally but we'll never know, I am hoping that one day there will be a satisfying clank into the toilet and I will know hard economic times have past.
But til then we will watch the pot, my grandfather would be proud.
Nb the GP dad at school assures me he will pass it and the only worry is immediately after swallowing choking or obstruction at that point. Magnets and batteries are bad but coins while uncomfortable aren't the worst thing to have been swallowed.
Not sure if i approve of this post! ;)
