Dinosaur cakes

It's been pouring here ever since the school holidays started. We wrote a list at the start of the holidays of things we wanted to do but many have remain unchecked as the weather has been so inclement.
One thing that was on the list was to make Dinosaur cakes using a pan that mum gave me for Christmas. It's one of the silicon ones that may well double as a jelly mould.
I was dubious about how they would turn out being so detailed I was sure that all the cake would stick and be awful in the pan.

But just look at these babies. Perfectly turned out dinosaur cakes goodness, covered in melted butter and cinnamon sugar. Yum!
I did spray the pan within an inch of its life with spray oil then sift flour onto the oil, Either way dinosaur cakes might be a regular feature round here, now to clean o it all those little crevices...

Feisty day

Elliot has had a feisty day, just doing his own thing with total disregard for our rules or my wishes. The last straw in a long succession of misdemeanors was snapping a plastic glitter and water filled wand on his bed. I sent him into the bathroom to do some time while I cleaned up the bedroom where he was already in trouble.
I came back to the bathroom to find this...

Totally sound asleep standing up leaning on the bath. Unbelievable, the bathmat was even damp! Gross!
Hopefully tomorrow will be a less feisty day

Breakthrough

Last year sebastian refused to participate in his dance performance at school. This year he is in the front line. He had a great time and while he was nervous he pushed thru he said and tried to not think about all the people there. He is first in line on the far right near the dance teacher

Workin the boards

Many of you will know that while Derek was at uni he worked at a circuit board factory. He hasn't started a similar style sweat shop here at home. But he and sebastian have been working on building some simple electrical circuits.

I'm not sure who is enjoying it more

The 4 beasts

It's not everyday you see a 6 year old boy with his head in the bible. What's gotten into him you ask? Typical pastors kid, eh? Brainwashed? Well at church we have been going thru the book of Daniel.

Kids included. A few weeks ago it got into the weird apocalyptic stuff, you know beasts with horns and horns with eyes and growing their own horns.
The kind of stuff you think boys would be right into.
Well all this talk about beasts got a certain 6 year old a bit worried, so much so he couldn't go to sleep.
Now he is not a closeted child he loves Ben 10- plenty of monsters and beasts, he reads books called beast quest, and didn't bat an eyelid at monsters inc. So I'm not quite sure what got him all worried about these beasts, perhaps that there wasn't a picture? He went back to read the description several times. Before bed that night we read the best most important part of the story again( and the ten little fingers - our other getting away bad dreams book)
God comes like a river of fire on his throne and throws the beasts into it destroying them. Then Jesus makes an appearance and the beasts are totally gone dealt with.
Sweet dreams honey.

He's a facepainter

Last week, when we were well. The face painters came to Playgroup. Elliot asked to be a turtle, which confounded the facepainter, she is an expert and said she doesn't think anyone's asked to be a turtle before, so he got a little cute baby turtle on one cheek

And an awesome spider on the other cheek.

"so that makes me an awesome spider turtle man, COOL!"
Sufficiently pleased and i didnt have to spend hours scrubbing red face paint out of eyebrows and pores.

Ta da

Bastian the blue tip. I will try to attach a video but will see how that goes

The painful pet clinic

I wish there was such a thing, unfortunately I miss read the sign when I parked outside this vets the other night.
Carnaby is well on her was to being 10, but int he last few months She has really upped the ante in annoying.

She will wander from room to room, failing to sit down or find anywhere comfortable, she scratches to go out then 2 minutes later scratches to come back in, she helps herself to sitting on lounges, and at around 5pm barks repeated at her food box till she is fed, then proceeds to pretend she hasn't been fed at all. Some nights she wanders aimlessly around the house scratching at various things, the bin, the chair, the dishwasher, the fridge.
Then there is her complete obsession with food which has lead to her ruining a favourite Table cloth, smashing glass candle holders and consuming several kilos of dog food all at once which she then throws up usually somewhere in the house.

Is this the beginnings of senile dementia or the signs of a dog who has had the runof a house for too long? Cesar Milan where are you?

Blue tip belts

Yesterday was Sebastian's first karate test to go up a grade in his belt. Tighten it a notch so to speak.
We has been up with him since 3am the night before with complaints of bad dreams and feeling sick in the tummy- I hazard to guess that it was just nervousness making those things happen.
So on little sleep and a lot of adrenalin Derek and sebastian drove up to the dojo in the pouring rain to face the Testers.

I think , unfairly we didn't know what happened at these grains and were unable to help him prepare other than saying "I'm sure it'll be fine".
His teacher was there but only one other child from his class.
derek could not of bern more proud as to how this little 6 year old rose to the challenged and his intense focus for the testing.

Sebastian was pretty pleased with himself at the end. The testing is not over however. Now the testing is waiting to see if he indeed got the blue tip belt of short term glory? We don't find out til Tuesday. Isn't that unfair, I'm sure they have. Their reasons but making little kids wait 4 days to find out if their performance was adequate seems a little counterintuitive to all the things we know about how kids work and performance and behavioral psychology.
Maybe its the lesson that good things come to those that wait? (sometimes) or the lesson of delayed gratification that the best things in life are worth waiting for?
We shall find out on Tuesday I guess.
