Whipped into a frenzy

I loathe taking my boys to the shops. They turn into trolls the minute shopping centre is mentioned and I am under no illusion that this may not change for their entire lives. I see visions of their wives dragging them around shopping centres with pouty grumpy men in their wake.
Today was no exception. I had to go to get some craft supplies for things we are going to do in the coming days. They had to come. There was winging and complaining, time wasting but my absolute favorite is the physical manifestations that shopping centers invite my children to partake in. It's like they see the entire complex as some massive obstacle course to be maneuvered around in the shortest time possible, why walk when you could run? Why meander down the slope when you could do roly polies right into the path of oncoming pedestrians making yourself into a human cannonball or torpedo. Why walk around signage or displays when they where put there for climbing in on or under. And mannequins.... Don't even get me started.

Elliot stood in myer today shouting al Pacino style taunts at no one in particular - ' hey boy are you looking at me?'

Where do they come from? These are not my children!
I don't take long in the shops I race in and out, done. No lingering no window shopping or browsing. No. Strictly business.

So.

Today I go to Woolworth's at the end of my trip to myer, the chemist, and the $2shop. I got milk, oranges, donuts( promised if I didn't have to shout at them) rice bubbles and the cream(pictured)
We went to the self serve check out which is always somewhat self defeating cause someone always puts something on the scanner too soon and we have to get help, but- there are no lollies at the checkout so that's why I go.
Part way through the process the aforementioned cream- destined for tonight's dinner slipped out of the holes the kids put their legs through in the seat bit of the trolley and exploded onto the floor.
It took a few seconds for me to notice as no one in my party was affected by the ensuing chaos. The creams trajectory was really in a straight line opposite us to a couple who looked like they may have just come from a winter solstice celebration at Stonehenge. They were clad head to toe in black felted fabric with pagan symbols embroidered all over them. Except now they were clad head to toe in black felted fabric and 600ml of cream. White splashed and sploshes all over them. On their hats and hoods, eyelashes, felted booties, even their metal pagan symbols they wore around their necks.

It may have been the first time they ventured out of their colony in years, only to be doused in cream
I was very apologetic. They said it was no probbies.

For my boys it was one of the only times I haven't got cross at them in Woolworth's. Luckily it wasn't their fault.

The ladies at woolworths were not so kind. I fear they may have hexed me on my way out.

And I didn't even use the cream in dinner.

You were the sunbeam in my life.

Today we have said goodbye to a valued member of our family. Our blue circa 1998 sunbeam kettle. It went off the boil.
It has seen some hard work over the last few years and never failed to deliver hot water when it was needed most. Well til this morning that is, when my blue sunbeam stopped switching off. Sad, untimely but not that unexpected 13 years is pretty good service for a kettle. I'm waiting now for the washing machine and fridge to pack it in.

Enter morphy, How good is it to still have a blue kettle. And excitingly it has a whistle to tell its boiled but it can be turned off! Come on over I'll put the kettle on!

Out with the old in with the new

Two and a half

He is sick too. He has a bad cough. He announces this every time he coughs. He is two and a half this week. He is non stop action, nonstop talking and non stop fun. He loves superheroes, getting baddies, 'him bef friends' his big brother and talking to any one who will listen, oh no hold on a sec, he will talk even when no one is listening. He loves crawling up onto Sebastian's bed at anytime of the day or night and cuddling with him.

They call me mellow yellow

There has been much sadness in this house for a while. The last time dad was here he did this. Painted the most awful wall in the house this colour, called Happiness. I know all too well that a coat of paint cannot make you happy, that only a certain hope in God is what brings true happiness. But this bright yellow wall is a little ray of sunshine. Thanks dad.

The best colourerinnera

A few weeks into term one sebastian came home from school a little sad. He wanted desperately to be the best colourerinnera in his class, however his skills were outmatched by a very careful and precise little girl called sandy. Much practice ensued.

A few weeks ago, Sandy's parents announced that they were moving down south for work- sandy was leaving the school... That left the top spot wide open, they were big shoes to fill.
Here's hoping all his efforts have been worthwhile, for this fictitious title.

Sick sick sick

It feels like I have been sick forever, my patience for such things is not great. I was looking forward to the school holidays at hanging out with the boys and doing fun things my now I have a chest infection and feel absolutely terrible

Here i am looking absolutely terrible for those who need proof. ( actually I'm just testing out this new blogger thing Derek set up for me. I am sick i have spent the day in bEd and am coughing my guts up. There is the photographic proof. I would take photos of the mess the house is in too to confirm to you but that would require me getting out of bed. As it is the charge is about to run out so I will have to get up anyway.

Lizard/gecko my new best friend

Sebastian found a baby gecko in our toilet, not actually in the toilet but you know, in the room. He got brave, in the past he wouldn't have even picked it up but he did and took a real shine to this one. He patted it and dropped it and manhandled it all afternoon, with repeated suggestions that he should let it go or it might die. Somehow he thought letting it go was worse than it dying. Monday afternoon Derek suggests that they go and have a ceremony to say goodbye to the gecko and let it back into the 'wild' our front yard. Now I'm not sure which thought terrified him the most, the chickens coming and eating his gecko or never seeing it again, but with body wrenching sobs and wailing, the gecko was brought back inside to die.

That night the gecko had labored breathing and we dreaded the next morning and what would await us. Low and behold the gecko was dead, la mort, kicked the bucket!
We held our breath and hoped that he didn't ask about the gecko before school. The morning went smoothly and he was off to school without so much a mention of his new friend. When he got home that afternoon we had to break the news to him.
There was much sobbing, snot and bloodshot eyes, a shallow grave was dug and stone placed in memorial over the top. Sleep was hard to come by because 'I'm just feeling so sad about my gecko'.
The next morning he said good bye to the gecko on his way out the gate.
Later that day I found the chickens in that particular garden bed scratching awAy having a dirt bath. I think the inevitable did happen, henny and rosie had a gecko feast, well snack in the very least. Needless to say I replaced the memorial stone and we say hello and goodbye to the dead gecko every morning like it was a long standing member of our family.
