Sorbetto

Whilst in quarantine...

And waiting for the hot water system to be replaced...

A practice in pin tucking.

A free pattern and a dollar one meter remnant. Done

I'm no hypochondriac

Since may we have been battling bugs in our house, about every two weeks I have been falling prey to some virus that is going around, having to be in bed for days and feeling wasted of energy aching everywhere. I feel like an arthritic 80 year old and the kind of person about which you say they catch everything.

Well I changed doctors and he ordered a blood test. The results are in people and Ross River Fever. I have it.

Yes that's right I have a tropical disease and I haven't been any further north than caloundra.

You know what they can do for me? nothing absolutely nothing except panadol and Nurofen. Well I actually feel about 60%today so that is something, maybe it's on it's way out.

I guess I can stop worrying about getting it from mozzies cause now I have had it I can't get it again. And I can also stop feeling like I shouldn't be feeling so sick, I'm not imagining it.
Derek is being tested too, we were both sitting together when I got bitten by the mozzie out in our backyard. I smacked it and killed it and got blood all over my leg. We both remembered it.

So if you do come to visit bring the tropical strength aeroguard with you. I am going to be more vigilant about tossing out pots of elliots wombat stew.

Peeling oranges

I have been overdosing in oranges in the last few days to try and rid myself of this plague that has been afflicting us since may.
As I peeled my daily orange today the smell of the orange oil wafting up as I peeled the skin took me straight back to having lunch at my grandparents house as a child.
Everyday without fail I'm sure even in the summer months when glorious stone fruit was around, my grandparents would have an apple and an orange each, Pa would peel and cut them up into bite size chunks with a special knife that was short and sharp and had an apple green plastic handle
They were sticklers for food routines, even when they were on holidays I remember sitting opposite them at our foster holiday house watching the ritual of the peeling and the chopping.

Today the smell took me back, and reminded me of days sitting at their table. And it made me smile. Grandma would open a tin of salmon and take the bones out for me, mum always left them in, she would boil eggs and had one of those fancy boiled egg slicers that we all fought over getting to use.
I peel oranges like my Pa. Thats a nice thing.

The messy end of face painting

All good things must come to an end albeit a messy one with red residue.

Bad day/good day or a day with a silver lining

Do you ever remember that feeling of turning up somewhere or school particularly and not getting it right? Like turning up on the swimming carnival with no swimmers, or free dress day in your uniform? I don't, my mum was on her game as far as I can remember. Either that or I have repressed the memories so deep that not even Jules Verne could find them.
So we turned up at school this morning to find that it was free dress day or actually crazy dress day. Sebastian had been telling me it was today but I kept saying no no I read the note it's not til next week. But lo and behold when we turned up at 9 there was craziness abounding. I had that sink ing feeling in my stomach. I am not on my game, I will plead illness but some of it is really not reading the notes properly.

This was the face of disappointment when we realized it was crazy dress day

20 min later we were dressed like this

With a mohawk that with rockstar hair stood an impressive 15cm straight up, however rain and no hat no play policies don't really get Mohawks and their gravity defying ways

And he won the. Best dressed prize in his class! Which was a terrible pack of Bart Simpson things.

To add insult to injury I had also forgotten it was the fathers day stall and had no money but found some in the glove box but more on that on fathers day.

Hopefully when I am not ridden by snot fueled viruses I will be on top of my game. And maybe stock up on some colored hairspray just in case

Rockstar in training no 2

Sebastian has begun phase two of becoming a rockstar. Obviously the hair is taken care of. So playing the guitar is the next hurdle. Check out these strumming skills. Paul this one is for you
