Images from the storm

School day 1

Sebastian was so excited about going back to school last night that he couldn't get to sleep. He woke several times in the middle of the night and was then up and ready early. He slept with his head near the ladder "cause it would be quicker to get down and get ready"

Here is my favourite picture from this morning.

Some shenanigans were going on

There was some sadness at not being big enough to go to school yet

And almost all of us.
Sebastian had a good day. Is teacher said "ah sebastian I know you you borrow lots of books from the library" needless to say they got off on the right foot.

Mango day

On my constant topic of my love and now my children's love for mangoes, here I go again.

There are mangoes everywhere. Fallen, rotting in the gutters, filling up rogue possums stomachs. The trees have gone mango mad this year.
Owen who works at church sent a bucketful home with Derek. They have been picked off the church car park tree. All but one aren't ripe. The ripe one was G.O.O.D. I'm trying to be patient while the others ripen. At this rate they will just be bruised from my constant checking.

A cake in memory.

It was cousin Chloe's bday yesterday we were far away but had the day at home so seemed a good enough excuse to make a cake.

When I was in year 4 or 5 I can't remember I had a play date with a girl from school who I didn't usually play with. She invited me over on a Saturday I rode my bike over to her place -we played totem tennis and drank green cordial. But the thing that has stuck in my mind from that single Saturday in 1986 sometime is one of food. A great partnership of chocolate and mint. Her mum had made a cake - a chocolate cake with mint icing and little choc chips all over the top. It was magic, I'm sure it's because partly I was eating in sin - knowing I was breaking my strict ( necessary and good for me) eczema diet, but this cake has left an indelible mark on my good memory.
We remade the cake yesterday as a part birthday cake and part "I'm sorry I hit you in the head with a wood- golf club and you needed 3 stitches and couldn't sleep over on Tuesday - Lachlan" cake.
It was good.
Minty and chocolatey goodness rolled into one mouthful.
I had a small taste - unfortunately chocolate cake is on my list of not eating everything that I see weight loss remedy. Shame cause I hear its siren song from the Tupperware.

10 c per palm frond

That was the going rate today. Look how many they got ...

No not that many

No not that many

Yep thats how many
In the end i could be bothered counting them all so they each got $5 hooray for holiday jobs. No complaining there. Pit them against each other in competition and jobs get done! Doesn't everyone want the crown of most palm fronds picked up on a Monday? Turns out they are both best palm frond pickereruppers in our house on a Monday. Jobs done, an afternoon spent without complaint and pocket money earned. I've been a bit slack with pocket money lately so this was a good catch up.

Elliot came crying out to me. Sebastian got more money than I did. He got 50s. I'd given them coins . Elliot got two $2 coins and a $1 and seb got two 50c pieces and 2 $2 coins. He would not hear the explanation of them being the same amount.

The little extrovert

Elliot is an extrovert. Pure and simple. When he gets up in the morning he asks who we will see
That day. Whenever we go anywhere he usually announces his intentions to make new friends there. If there is someone to talk to he is happy. He doesn't do downtime or alone time very well.

These pics were taken with a new friend at the wedding.
It's a nice way to be to see the world full of potential friends busting to get out and meet them.

Holidays

We may have found the perfect holiday location. A funky pad to call our own for 10 days. Walking distance to the beach and shops

locals call it the cheese house.

A cool kitchen

A bathroom that overlooks the kitchen. with pretty circular glass mosaic tiles that looks liked gemstones when wet.

Beautiful breezes through all those louvres

Comfy couches - leather so kids mess wipes off

And the cute spotty motif throughout.

The beach was a river inlet so nice and shallow but with a great current that at different times of the day made riding the rapids super fun

Everyone was happy. Tristan came in the water everyday . I would feed him before we went. He'd slash about for about. 40min til he was exhausted I'd pop in him the sling

So he was out of the sun and he'd happily sleep for an hour or more while everyone else swam and played on the sand. Then we'd head home shower him off and have another feed. He was very accommodating.
It was a great time for us as a family. We bought just dance 2 for the wii and had lots of fun boogying away.

And it was so great to have this little guy with us, filling up the car, completing our family. A far cry from our last holiday where I felt so sad and empty after the loss of all those babies.
I was and am truly humbled and grateful to God in his mercy for giving us this little boy. He is a delight.

Wedding in a barn

We go to lots of weddings, comes with the job. Some I am looking forward to others I wish I was elsewhere. But that's life isn't it? This weekend we went to a wedding where all the kids were invited which hardly ever happens, so yay no painful trying to find a babysitter. The boys got dressed up yep. All in matching shirts - cute for a wedding - easier to keep track of in a crowd too.

-aren't they handsome.
But the wedding itself I was dreading it was out near Ipswich which was going to be 39 degrees
The wedding was to be in a barn which clearly had no capacity for air conditioning! Ugh, why do people choose to get married on hot days? She says remembering 15 years ago the 38 degree day in feb she got married on. How inconvenient for me!

The marriage took place here under this gnarled old tree with bunting and paper flowers strewn in the branches. the bride and groom sat on hay stacks and guests on old cinema chairs. the tree provided lots of shade and there was a breeze and very little humidity until Brisbane that we had come from. I was slowly eating some humble pie.

Heres the happy couple. her grandfather planted 100s of sunflowers for decorating and her bouquet.
There was plenty of Icy cold water and the reception was in the barn

More bunting sunflowers and fairy lights - simple, pretty fun.
the food was a woodfired pizza oven all cooked on site. tasty and delicious. the groom had home brewed beer and cider. and wedding cake was dessert. it was the most delicious chocolate and cherry cake with some sweet alcohol syrup.

The boys had a ball running and runiing and running some more. making new friends and playing with playdoh colouring in and glow sticks when it got dark. It was such a relaxed mood no one cared if the boys were noisy or running. How nice. There was even a box of chips for them all to share. We didn't stay for speeches and dancing as at 1030 this is where I found sebastian

Sound asleep on a rug on the concrete floor.
I was dreading this wedding, but it turned out to be one of the nicest so far. The couple made it so relaxed and friendly. Even Tristan had a smile on his hot sweaty little face for most of the afternoon.
There was promise of an afternoon storm but it didn't come. Probably just as well.

4 months 5 kgs

When Tristan was born I thought to myself if we can just get to Christmas still putting weight on I think it will be ok. We got to Christmas and today we reached 5kgs. Hooray! Only monthly visits to the dr from now on

Reading stories to Tristan

My clever clogs oldest sister made a beautiful book for Tristan. It has hand stitching and lovely colours and he loves it. In fact everyone loves it. Elliot can read it and each day has "read" it to Tristan.

Love

I got to see all of my nieces last week. I have very fond memories of my older cousins painting my toenails when we saw them. I gave my lovely nearly 8year old niece some nail polish for Christmas she wanted me to paint her nails. What I didn't realise was the deal was that she then painted mine.

here they are in all their glory. And I still have the polish on. I wish I could have her paint my nails every week.
