Turn away if you are squeamish

Yep it's a decapitated dead rat. I hope it's the one I saw behind the dishwasher.
I was worrying about how I might pick it up and get rid of it. When I got home from school drop off it was gone. Thankyou Carrion loving crows and magpies. Just to give you an idea do the size, the tail was as thick as my little finger. I'm not loving living near a creek at the moment. Where has that python gone?

Miso soup

I've discovered miso soup. I am relatively new to the Japanese cuisine but I am making up for that.
I got some miso soup paste at the supermarket this week and we tried it. Apart from discovering it had msg in it, it was delicious.
Elliot my ever present adventurer was keen to try

Hmmm it tastes a bit good and a bit weird.
It tastes like soccer balls and carrots

Where does he get this stuff?

Open shut them

Tristan loves the song open shut them. He always has.
Dinner. Or mealtimes rather, have become a song and dance routine.

Ironically if I sing open shut them he will open his mouth and I can sneak more mouth fulls in
He can do the actions to it as well. I don't know if he is concentrating do hard on doing actions he forgets I am cajoling him to eat or if its like a little mantra he chants to psych himself up for eating.
Either way its working - so if I need to sing open shut them 100 times at dinner to get a bowl of mush in so be it

Storage

Elliot was listening to a story at kindy this week about a camel who stored water in his hump. Halfway through the story he pipes up in his eager "I know some really important information voice" to tell the teachers some really important information

Guys, I know something about storage. My dad buys lots of bottle of wine. But it's cheap wine and he takes it home and stores it so its cheaper and he doesn't have to go out and get it. It's like the camel. He stores wine and the camel stores water

Classic!
Derek had bought 1/2 a dozen bottles of wine the night before and announced when he got home he'd bought it so it was cheaper when you got 6 and he could store it so he didn't have to go out when he felt like a glass of wine to get any.
So many savings.

Gravity baby

All of a sudden Tristan has gone from a baby who hated movement and being thrown around to loving it

He can't get enough of being upside down

He climbs up you and tries to flip over

He grins from ear to ear the whole time and that's hard work anti gravity when you are upside down.
There is just a small matter of still being a little refluxy. So trips to upside down land need to be carefully timed so they don't end up with a ride on the vomit train

Busted. Aka I'm having a special day out with my mum

Last week Elliot was invited to a birthday party which was smack bang at the same time as church. I'm not legalistic about going, it doesn't save you by turning up through the doors each week having your attendance marked off. But, we have made a commitment to it and I value that, as well as the people we go there to meet with and what we hear while we are there, any who, for the two weeks prior to this party invite we hadn't been, I had said yes o one party then a week of quarantine now another party invite. So I drew a line in the sand, the child wasn't a particularly close friend. I was umming and ahhhing about how to RSVP and meant to do it many times then got distracted. So Thursday morning last week saw the child's mother ask me in the car park if Elliot was coming to the party - which was fine, I was slack to not have replied earlier. I had to decline the invite infront of Elliot. He was not happy, infact so unhappy he chucked a tantrum. Delightful. In the car park, infront of the teachers and other mums, I think he might have even tried to smack me on the bottom. I spoke to him calmly and serenely as you do when all eyes are on you. And explained that he couldn't go to the party but we could go to the play centre where the party was at another time. I knew the tantrum wasn't about the party but about not getting to go to the play centre. I had actually explained several days earlier when we made the decision to not go to the party that I would take just Elliot to the centre at another time - which he was very fine with at that time.

So on Tuesday I took him to the play centre as promised, not because he chucked a tantrum, I think he lost screen time that day anyway.

Does he look like he's having fun?
He kept telling people he was having a special day with his mum and I kept thinking -really? I'm just bringing you here cause I disappointed you by not letting you go to some kids party. Silver linings.

In all of that I raced out of the house that morning just wanting to get the whole play centre ordeal over with and left without a change of clothes for Tristan. He wee-ed right through his nappy as we were leaving school all over him and me. It was a cold day. So I got him a pair of $5 pjs at the reject shop, the only clothes they had in size 0. Unfortunately I had to stay with wee on my top. I also hadn't taken a pair of socks for my self at the play centre and it was one of those days I chose ballet flats instead of sensible warm shoes and socks. Tristan was bursting at the seams to get into the baby area so I went it walking on my knees, he was having a lovely time, climbing looking at bubbles

When I got busted for not having socks on, she told me I could buy some of their socks but I was already thinking this stinking trip to your centre had cost me 990 to get in, $5 for new dry clothes and a coffee I didn't really want socks as well. So Tristan and I left, he crawled around on the mats outside, I wore my dirty great big shoes and contaminated the floor

Out here, and elliot had a special day out with his mum - who got just about everything wrong that day

Happy birthday deon

Last night we went to a surprise birthday party for our friend Deon. Elliot was quite concerned about the details of the surprise.
"It's in a hall? So whose house is the hall in?
No it's not in a house it's in a hall like a church hall?
"So we got to someone's house and there's a church hall there?
No it's notin a house it's in a hall it's not someone's house.
Right and we need to hide?
Yes we have to hide so that deon gets a surprise when he comes in.
Will we all hide in the cupboard?
There is going to be a lot of people there we won't fit in the cupboard we might just turn the lights off or he will have a blindfold on.
Oh.... (Processing time) so it's at someone's house?

They had a photo booth I think Elliot made it into most photos during the night. There was also pool and ping pong, sebastian discovered his love for the ping and the pong. And was thrilled when I reminded him that we have a ping pong table at home!
I was a late night but they boys had a super time and were thrilled to have been in on the surprise!
Oh, the photo? Tristan is sat in the suitcase with all the props for the photo booth. He was covered in sparkles .

Here is Derek looking "classy" in his tie bow. ( it was a gatsbyesque dress code) Derek made a bow tie out of a tie. Isn't he clever? And classy?
Another friend Phil did the photo presentation for the night and I love his sense of humour. Keep calm and deon, deon -deoff. Loads of funny puns and photos. Kept me chuckling all night.

20? Years

On Friday I caught up with my 2nd cousin Janelle - we figured it may have been 20 years since we had seen each other. We used to see each other for about 2 weeks over Christmas every year. We would write letters to each other back and forth during the year. On New Year's Eve we would plot and plan a night of entertainment for our great aunts and uncles and mums and dads. To this day I can't go into a campervan and not think of her family still.

It was so wonderful to see her and catch snippets of the last 20 years. Hopefully there will be more catch ups in the next 20.

Dressed up for yet another wedding

Brisbane turned one of its finest days yesterday for a wedding we were invited to. 25 degrees, sunny warm perfect. A pretty cool shirt that has seen a wedding or two in its day! Well done Nonna, I think I need to come up with new acronym for ebh though, excellent boy H...a? Extroverted boy hipster?
