The official photo

This is the official school photo after the awards were presented at assembly. He looks thrilled doesn't he? He has at least had a haircut since then

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely women who care for children in any capacity, mums grandmas, aunts, friends, foster carers.
It's such a mixed bag of a day for me, away from my own mum and mother in law and grandmothers, and it's a day that held such a big loss for me a few years before that top photo was taken. And as I think of those who are missing their mums today.
I combined the two as I was reflecting on the mixed feelings I have about the day and about that little blondie front and centre, what a privilege it is to be his mother, what a joy to have been able to experience him, he was in the first picture, hiding, quietly causing a lot of anxiety, being taken care of by a God who knit him into being and grew him for us.

I am older, more tired, wiser and more reliant on the God who is my father who helps me to be the mother I am. He picks me up and gives me strength and patience when I have none, and he loves these boys entrusted to me more than I ever could.

Happy Mother's Day. And a big hug to Mum and Mother in Law who give me encouragement and wisdom on a daily basis.

Happy birthday Seb

Easter and birthday coincided this year as well as Sundays, so you can imagine what that was like

A few days later I was able to make this for school, for those of you who don't know it's Emmet from the lego movie

We did an Easter egg hunt, Tristan is already tucking into his

Seb on the hunt

A little party with aunty Steph cookies. Such fun

And the real birthday a cake from Coles I'd grabbed the night before at 5 pm as it was shutting it had been reduced to $1.
I stuck some candles on and a lego mini figure and we sung happy birthday with meat pies and tomato sauce for lunch. What more could a boy want?
( the cake was actually delicious, fresh cream strawberry jam, chocolate sponge and donut icing)
Probably tasted better than the one at the top!

At the playschool concert

Playschool were in town and we decided to all go along. And look who we met!!!

Tristan wasn't totally appreciating the moment here of being picked up and carried by andrew and shown all the playschool toys!!!

Seb trying to rabbit ears me in a photo

Before the concert, T had no idea what was going on

Seb was unimpressed but doing a good job of controlling it so that Tristan had fun

Ah, a playschool concert, always the same, always fabulous

A quick up date

Mother's Day selfie, becoming a tradition, everyone smiling. They had the promise of sushi for lunch! yes even the smallest now likes sushi.

Tis was Tristans Mother's Day present for me, a filthy stinky face washer, you know the kind that had sat on the sink for a few days, wiped up a whole lot of messes? Dumped right into a half full cup of tea, he likes to dump things into other things, gotta make sure the toilet door is shut - I've found lego and micro chargers at the bottom of the s bend and another lego man dumped into the cake we were making today. He's quick, like lightning, one moment your creaming eggs and sugar and the next there's a lego mini figure taking a dip.

We have had a house guest for the last ten days, he has moved to live with another family now but we had a great week, the boys adored him and he was very kind to them, we took him out for breakfast at a hipster cafe, where we all felt out of place not having donned our 1980s hand knit sweaters and skinny jeans, at least Derek had heavy framed glasses on so we were given a table. We introduced him to porridge which he liked cause he said it was like rice. Tristan particularly like him and would call his name whenever we got home to see if he was here.

Here are the boys watching the monster trucks on a Saturday night

And here is Elliot collecting and proudly displaying his first ever student of the week award. It was for improved attention to the task at hand. Which says to me he wasn't as chatty and distracted as he usually is. Not the case today - he has to go spend time in the thinking time chair tomorrow - tho he thinks his teacher might forget - in fact he is sure she will so it doesn't really make it a very good punishment.
He has mixed feelings about school and I am inclined to agree with him, his teacher doesn't make it the best place to be, he misses kindy. Maybe we should pop in there sometime this week? He is very excited about home readers tho, and is trying really hard, it's really nice to sit down and work with him. Seb has been really encouraging of his effort to read, it's like he can see all the goodness in he the world that is unlocked by being able to read books and he wants that for Elliot too.
