A beautiful moment

I went in to check the boys had covers on a little while ago and found sebastian had fallen asleep with a book, on closer inspection it was a book I read him all the time when he was a toddler called "my mum"

Here he is with his arm lovingly draped across the last page with a photo of him and I and the caption " my mum loves me"
I shed a little tear of romanticized happiness. When he was little I needed to look at cute photos of him after the ordeal of putting him to bed to remember how much I liked him. (I never questioned loving him but liking him was hard sometimes).
I think this will be the new photo for me. My 6 year old falling asleep with his arm draped over our picture - my mummy loves me - she sure does little matey.

So when he is being infuriating, unhelpful, obstructive, stubborn, angry, rude sinful, or hurtful I will look back at this knowing that this night he went to bed knowing his mummy loves him.
I'm sure he needs those reminders too.

Poor little guy

Poor Elliot covered in eczema, itchy uncomfortable. Then leg cramps or growing pains? Waking him up from sleep. He has fallen back to sleep on me on the couch

-
I can't get up. I didn't wear this today I was just cold and grabbed the first thing on my bed. I'm not coping with clashing stripes!

Special visitors

In the school holidays we had some special friends come to visit.

I think for me the most special thing was making friends with the little guy on the left. We are mates now and I think he is the kind of kid that once he likes you he is loyal and affectionate and lovely, but he doesn't give that away willy nilly. I also took an 8 year old shopping who didn't complain and was helpful and had lots of wonderful airtime with my lovely Mel, we had dinner and a movie at this great place here, excellent Thai, best in years!

Car beds

I found these two inventing car beds this morning, they had emptied out storage boxes from under the bed and put blankets and pillows in them, they were very pleased with their inventions

30 years in the making

At Christmas, every year, without fail I would devour mangoes dry them out and plant them in the hope that the next December when I returned to my great grandfathers property there would be a bountiful mango tree in the garden. This may have been some what fanciful or my Pa Mac might have been going along behind me digging up what I planted?
This afternoon I was doing a little more pruning and discovered this....

- a little mango tree growing out of a dried up mango seed I threw out the kitchen window!
I did it! I grew a mango tree! Not mindfully, but it's still there. It may have taken 30 years but I'm on my way to a bountiful crop... In a few years.

Evidence it is a mango- see the 2 seeds! Willfully abandoned in the compost. Awesome

Waiting

Tuesday, well not only Tuesday but lets stay on topic for at least a moment was a day of waiting, waiting for a bus, waiting for the right stop when you have never travelled on that bus before, waiting for appointments, waiting for news, waiting for buses again.

I travelled in to the royal Brisbane and women's hospital to do my booking in appointment. I have been waiting for this for 2 years, which doesn't seem that long in the scheme of thing, the blink of a minds eye in eternity perhaps.
We have been waiting, sometimes patiently, other times sorrowfully, or fearfully and other times impatiently to see if a third person would some day join our family. For a long while there and many tears it felt like no, that was not what God had planned for us. But here we are booking in to the hospital, waiting in Gods grace for this little no. 3 who is growing in my belly.
We are waiting to rejoice in the birth of this little one who has been so desired and yet so illusive. We are waiting in the presence of a Father who loves all those children of his more than we as parents ever could and we are waiting knowing that it is not us in control.
I am not very good at waiting at the best of times, somehow I think I am getting more at ease with it.
There is still 25 weeks to go, a long wait, a short time? But hopefully the best birthday present I will ever get.

Hot cross buns

One nice thing about school holidays is having time to do things. This morning we made hot cross buns from scratch. They smell so good.

Happy easter everyone
We are looking forward to remembering Jesus death and resurrection over the weekend.
Plus a slower time with no usual commitments and perfect perfect weather

In training

One of the wonderful things about this getting out and doing gardening every day is that the boys have been playing outside and having a wonderful time of it, we cleaned up down stairs and they made up a training area for karate with a punching dodge ball

It's been a lot of fun. I bought them pool noodles to have karate fighting stick battles with.
Beware the ninja if you come to visit

The reluctantly constant gardener

Sebastian has been punished. I had to think thru this one carefully and not be too rash shooting myself in the foot during school holidays, which meant not banning tv ( aka my sleep in). Nor Lego ( quiet rest time)
So after some deliberation it was decided no computer games for 2 weeks and 30 min of gardening every day of the holidays

the first day I thought the ingenious plan had backfired. " mum I love weeding!"
Hmmmm

But like clockwork the task has become tiresome and hard work and boring. Excellent!
But to his credit he has stuck at it everyday with a little encouragement
